Ortiz - I know he's "Russ"ty, but....
So the O's added a bit of depth to their pitching staff by signing RHP Russ Ortiz. What we know....
1.) He performed well with the Atlanta Braves, winning 21 games in 2003.
2.) While he was performing well with the Braves, Leo Mazzone was his pitching coach.
3.) Leo Mazzone is the current pitching coach for the Orioles.
4.) Russ Ortiz has been so piss poor this year that Arizona pretty much just ate his contract completely because he's been so terrible. They hated his guts out!
Is he worth the risk? I say "yes"!
The Orioles didn't have to spend that much to get him, and if Mazzone gets him going again, it could be a very good situation for the O's, for Russ, and for the fans like us.
What do you guys think? Is Russ worth the risk?

Hmm. I guess he's worth it. It's not a big contract, and there's a chance he could relive his magic with the Zzone. He may need to lose a few pounds first. I also agree with the first commenter.
Slawoslaw...that's an interesting prespective...but I disagree. Cleary, Skip and joe were NOT planted behind the government. That's just crazy talk....but I do agree that Protectionism on both sides has pay double the miles.

Pay DOUBLE the miles? Isn't that a bit drastic? I'm not sure why everything has to be an emergency with slawoslaw.
Anyway, Ortiz is a good signing because it allows Lowen and Penn to get more seasoned in the minors. They'll be here next year, but Ortiz?... well he will be planted behing the government. BELOW THAT YOU RICHARDS!!!!!!
